The verdict
beehiiv is worth paying for when the newsletter itself is how you make money.
It is not worth paying for when the newsletter is a supporting channel for a business that earns elsewhere. On the free Launch plan, beehiiv is a capable publishing tool. On the paid plans, most of what you are buying is monetization and growth machinery: an ad network, paid recommendations, referral mechanics, and a 0% take rate on paid subscriptions. If you will never switch those on, you are paying for a warehouse you do not intend to fill.
So the useful question is not “is beehiiv good.” It is: in the next twelve months, will this publication try to earn money directly?
If yes, keep reading. If no, Kit is likely the better fit, and the free Launch plan is still worth a look.
What we checked, and when
We do not claim to have run a newsletter on beehiiv. This is a research review, and we separate the evidence by type and date.
- Pricing and plan features: taken from beehiiv’s official pricing page and verified on August 31, 2026.
- Partner and affiliate terms: verified on August 31, 2026.
- Review-marketplace consensus: beehiiv held 4.5/5 from 40 reviews on G2 at our last verified check on August 22, 2026. We could not re-check that page on August 31, so we are dating it honestly rather than restating it as today’s number.
- Community feedback: treated as anecdotal and never converted into a platform-wide fact.
A disclosure before we start: of the products in this review, beehiiv is the only one we earn a commission from. Kit and ActiveCampaign links on this site are plain links to their websites. This review sets out the cases where paying for beehiiv is a mistake, and our Kit vs beehiiv comparison recommends Kit for a large share of readers.
What beehiiv actually is
beehiiv is a newsletter publishing business platform, not a general email marketing tool.
That distinction shows up in what ships in the box. Alongside the email editor you get a website, a podcast surface, a link-in-bio page, custom domains, and a recommendation network — on the free plan. What sits behind the paywall is not “more emails.” It is the revenue layer.
A useful way to picture the difference: an email marketing tool asks who should receive what next? beehiiv asks how does this publication grow and get paid?
beehiiv pricing in 2026
beehiiv’s pricing page uses a subscriber slider. Every number below is what the page displayed at its default 1,000-subscriber position on August 31, 2026. Move the slider to your real list size before you compare anything — that is where most pricing arguments about beehiiv go wrong.
| Plan | Price shown | Annual billing | Subscriber ceiling shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch | $0/month | — | Up to 2,500 subscribers |
| Scale | $43 per month | $517 billed annually (page says “Save $71/year”) | 100,000 |
| Max | $96 per month | $1,151 billed annually (page says “Save $157/year”) | 100,000 |
| Enterprise | Custom | — | 100K+ subscribers |
Launch is a real free plan, not a demo
Launch covers up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited email sends, a website, a podcast surface, campaign analytics, custom domains, optimized deliverability, the AI website builder, link-in-bio, and access to the recommendation network. API access is included, though the Send API is not.
For a publication under 2,500 subscribers that has not started earning yet, this is genuinely enough. Do not upgrade out of enthusiasm.
Scale is the plan that changes the business model
Scale is where beehiiv stops being a publishing tool and becomes a revenue system. It adds the Ad Network, paid Recommendations, a 0% take rate on paid subscriptions, Digital Products, Community, Email Automations, Surveys & Polls, advanced website analytics, Webhooks, three team seats, and human support.
That 0% take rate is the line worth staring at. If you plan to sell paid subscriptions, the platform’s cut is the single biggest long-run cost variable, and beehiiv sets it to zero on Scale. Against a platform that takes a percentage forever, a fixed monthly fee gets cheaper every time your paid revenue grows.
What Max adds, and who actually needs it
Max adds removing beehiiv branding, a Sponsorship Storefront, audio newsletters, appointment-style digital products, RSS to Send, up to 10 publications, unlimited team seats, dynamic content, AI bot control, the Send API, group subscriptions, and click-triggered automations.
Most solo creators do not need Max. Two groups genuinely do: operators running several publications, and publications selling sponsorships directly, where the Sponsorship Storefront and branding removal affect how advertisers perceive you.
What the price does as your list grows
The headline numbers are a 1,000-subscriber snapshot. Both Scale and Max show a 100,000-subscriber ceiling, with Enterprise above that, and the price climbs on the way there.
This is the same trap creators hit with every subscriber-priced platform: the plan you can afford today is not the plan you will be on in eighteen months. Before committing annually, put your realistic twelve-month subscriber target into the slider and look at that price. Compare the price at your projected list size, not only the default slider position.
What reviewers consistently praise
At our last verified check (August 22, 2026), beehiiv’s G2 score was 4.5/5 across 40 reviews. That is a small review base, and we treat it accordingly — 40 reviews can describe a product, but they cannot establish a broad consensus the way thousands can.
Within that data, the recurring positives cluster tightly around the business model rather than the email editor: monetization, ad-network access, ease of publishing, newsletter design, sharing, and recommendations. Reviewers repeatedly describe adding matched ads and running growth features inside the same system they publish in, without stitching together separate tools.
That coherence is the most defensible thing about beehiiv. It is one system with one dashboard for publishing, growing, and earning.
What reviewers and community discussions flag
Two cautions are worth taking seriously.
The review base is small. Forty reviews is not enough for us to tell you what “most users” think. Where a competitor has hundreds or thousands of verified reviews, beehiiv’s picture is thinner. That is a limitation of the evidence, not a criticism of the product.
Editing and migration draw uneven reports. Recent community discussions include experienced marketers describing a difficult migration and frustration making simple design changes after an editor change. Other users describe the opposite and praise the flexibility. Both accounts exist, and neither settles the question.
Our conclusion is not “the editor is bad.” It is narrower and more actionable: rebuild one real issue and run one test import before you migrate an established publication. An hour of that will tell you more than any review, ours included.
Is beehiiv worth it? Four common scenarios
You are under 2,500 subscribers and not yet earning — use Launch, pay nothing
You do not need Scale. You need publishing consistency and a growth habit. Launch gives you a website, custom domain, unlimited sends, and recommendation-network access at no cost. Revisit this in six months.
Your newsletter is becoming the product — yes, Scale is worth it
Paid subscriptions at a 0% take rate, the Ad Network, and paid recommendations are the whole reason to be here. Scale is worth considering if you expect to use two of those three within a quarter.
You sell courses, coaching, or services and email supports the sale — probably not
Your bottleneck is behavior-driven follow-up: tag on click, branch the sequence, launch to a segment. beehiiv has automations on Scale, but that is not the platform’s center of gravity, and you would be paying for an ad network you will not use. Read our Kit vs beehiiv breakdown before deciding.
You run multiple publications or sell sponsorships directly — yes, and look hard at Max
Ten publications, unlimited seats, the Sponsorship Storefront, and branding removal are the specific things a small media operation needs and a solo writer does not.
Who should not use beehiiv
- Anyone whose main need is deep marketing automation or CRM-style journeys.
- Anyone who wants the lowest possible fixed cost while list size grows and has no plan to monetize the publication directly.
- Anyone whose brand depends on heavy visual email design — test the editor against your actual template before committing.
- Anyone migrating a large established list who has not yet run a test import.
Alternatives worth comparing

FAQ
Is beehiiv worth it in 2026?
Yes, if your publication will try to earn money directly within the next year — through paid subscriptions, ads, sponsorships, or paid recommendations. If it will not, stay on the free Launch plan or use a creator-focused email tool instead.
Is beehiiv really free?
The Launch plan is listed at $0/month for up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends, a website, custom domains, and recommendation-network access. It is a working free plan, not a time-limited trial. beehiiv’s pricing page does not state a trial length for the paid plans, so we do not quote one.
How much does beehiiv cost as my list grows?
The $43 and $96 figures are what the pricing page showed at 1,000 subscribers on August 31, 2026. Both Scale and Max display a 100,000-subscriber ceiling, and the price rises with list size. Set the slider to your twelve-month target before you compare.
Does beehiiv take a cut of paid subscriptions?
Scale and Max list a 0% take rate on paid subscriptions. Payment processing fees are separate and are charged by the payment processor, not by beehiiv.
Is beehiiv better than Kit?
They answer different questions. beehiiv is better when the publication earns directly. Kit is better when your audience buys products or services from you. Our head-to-head comparison walks through the decision.
Is beehiiv good for beginners?
For someone starting a publication, yes — Launch removes the cost objection entirely. For someone starting a creator business that happens to include email, a funnel-oriented tool is an easier first step.
Sources and methodology
Pricing, plan structure, and feature gating were taken from beehiiv’s official pricing page and verified on August 31, 2026. Affiliate terms were verified on the same date from beehiiv’s official partner page; we disclose the relationship but do not publish commission figures. Review-marketplace data reflects our last verified check on August 22, 2026 and is dated as such throughout, because the source could not be re-checked on August 31. Community discussions are treated as anecdotal signals to test, never as platform-wide facts. No hands-on usage is claimed anywhere in this article.
